Create interview archive
How do I create my own interview archive?
(Video in preparation)
On the Oral-History.Digital website, you will find the contact form under “Join”. Use this form to send the Oral-History.Digital team information about your interview archive. You can also clarify any questions you may have with the team during regular office hours (Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.) or by email or phone.
The team will then create your archive in the development environment, including the areas that you will subsequently manage. Technical configurations such as archive abbreviations, file paths, or links to your domain will be handled by the Oral-History.Digital team in consultation with you, while you enter information about your institution, your archive, and, if applicable, its individual collections. This information will be freely searchable in Oral-History.Digital. You also specify which content and metadata relating to your interviews are recorded in which language, whether they should be displayed in list, grid, and/or single view, and which colors and logos your archive should display.
Can I (or my institution) create multiple archives?
Yes, you can create multiple archives in OHD, all of which are assigned to the same institution. To do so, please contact the OHD staff by email or phone, or fill out the contact form on the website with the relevant information for your new archive.
What domain does my archive have after it has been created?
When creating your archive, you specify an archive abbreviation consisting of several letters, which is used to locate and identify your archive in the OHD infrastructure. This abbreviation is then also used to generate your archive domain. This is created according to the pattern https://portal.oral-history.digital/xxx/en, replacing xxx with your archive abbreviation. However, it is also possible to specify your own address as the archive domain (even after the archive has been created). To do so, please contact an OHD employee by email or phone.
Is it possible to use OHD as a pure data repository without uploading interviews?
Yes, it is possible to use OHD as a pure data repository for your interviews without uploading the interviews to the portal. For this purpose, OHD also offers its own interview view, which you can activate under Configure Archive with the option “Show metadata only.”
