Edit metadata for the interview and the person

How can I edit the metadata for my interviews?

(Video in preparation)

On the right-hand side of the interview view, you have the option to edit the specific metadata for your interview.

To create new metadata categories or edit or deactivate existing categories, you must select the “Edit metadata” menu option and edit an existing metadata entry or add a new one.

You can create your own metadata category using a three-step process. First, you must create a registry entry or subentry under Registry that you want to link to your new metadata (ideally, this entry already has the name of the metadata—for example, “Occupation”). Then, under “Edit link types,” create a suitable link type that can refer to the registry entry. Finally, add a new metadata item to your metadata list (Add metadata) and select the “Registry” option under Data source. Next, select the link type you just created from the selection option below and select the appropriate registry entry below it (in our example, the entry “Occupation”). To display this metadata as a metadata category in the interview view, all you have to do is check the box “Show in detail view” or “Show on landing page.”

I am logged in with my account, but I cannot edit interview data.

This may be because you have not yet activated the editorial view. You can always find this in the OHD interface in the upper right corner of the page.

You may also be missing the necessary authorisations in the given archive. To resolve this, please contact your archive owner, who can activate these archive functions for you in the user menu.

How do I add the people involved in an interview to the metadata for that interview?

On the right-hand side of the interview view, under “Edit metadata – for interview,” you will find a list of all the people involved in the video. You can always add more people involved here. Some types of participation are already predefined here, and you have the option of adding people involved when creating the interview under “Create new interview” (“Add contributors”). However, to add a specific person to the interview, you must first create the corresponding person entry under “Add people.”

If you need a specific type of contribution that has not yet been created, you can add it under “Edit contribution types.” Here you can also edit existing contribution types.

Is it possible to make private interview data such as names or locations unrecognizable to users?

Yes, there are several ways to do this. On the one hand, you can use the Replace Text / Anonymize option on the right-hand side of the interview view to make certain words and passages in the transcript unrecognizable. You can also set individual metadata to “not public” to make it inaccessible to users. Last but not least, you have the option of setting pseudonyms for your entries in the wiki that refer to People involved in your interviews. Those will then be displayed

Can I add additional files such as photos to my interviews?

Yes. On the one hand, you have the option of using the photo import function. The uploaded photos are then displayed in the interview view under “Photos” on the right-hand side.

On the other hand, the protocol and biography import feature allows you to automatically upload protocol or biography text files. These will then appear on the right-hand side of the interview view.
