Upload transcript
How do I upload the transcripts for my interviews?
(Video in preparation)
The option to upload your transcripts for specific interviews can be found on the right-hand side of the interview view.
Can I upload multiple transcripts at once?
No, you must upload the transcripts separately for each media file of an interview. A bulk upload of transcripts is in preparation.
What format must the transcripts be in to be uploaded to OHD?
Transcripts should generally be in .srt, .ods, .odt, .vtt, or .csv format.
Furthermore, it is not absolutely necessary, but useful, to include timecodes assigned to each sentence in the transcripts. These allow for precise searching, keyword indexing, and subtitling in Oral-History.Digital.
If your transcripts do not yet have timecodes, you can use the automatic alignment feature of the CLARIN Center BAS at LMU Munich. Oral-History.Digital currently offers instructions for this and will provide an interface in the future.
Is there a way to automatically generate transcripts for my interviews?
You can use ASR4Memory's privacy-compliant automatic speech recognition to generate a transcript for your video or audio file and then upload it.
Can I edit the transcripts of my interviews afterwards?
Yes, there are two different ways to do this:
First, you can change the text of a passage directly in the transcript view by clicking on the pencil-icon next to it.
Second, the indexing table offers a more detailed view of the entire transcript, including timecodes. You can also find the indexing table in the interview view.
How can I upload or create a translation of an interview transcript?
If your interview was conducted in a language that does not correspond to the language of your user interface, you have the option of providing important data from your interview (such as the transcript or table of contents) in translated form. In this case, an additional menu item called “Translation” will appear on the left side of the interview view.
The transcript is usually translated externally using the exported and then re-imported .ods-file of the transcript. To upload a translation of your transcript, proceed as you would for a normal transcript import, except that here you select the translation language as the transcript language.
However, the transcript translation can also be done directly in the indexing table.
Is it possible for users to download individual transcripts?
If you have already uploaded a transcript for your interview, you can make it available for download to users of your archive (as a PDF file) under "Edit metadata – about the interview".
To do this, click on the pencil-icon next to the “Transcript” entry. You can then decide whether your transcript is available for download by checking or unchecking the box.
As an editor or archive manager, you also have the option of downloading the transcript in various formats under “Downloads.” However, this option is not available to normal users of the archive.
