Paris, 22–24 June 2026: Symposium on ‘Principles for the Ethical Use of Digital Testimonies of Victims and Witnesses of Mass Violence’
Oral-History.Digital and its extension projects were presented this week at an international symposium on ethical issues. In her talk “Open.Oral-History: Ethical Challenges in the Curation of Sensitive Testimonies”, Verena Lucia Nägel introduced the “Open.Oral-History” project, which is developing legal and ethical recommendations as well as an anonymisation pipeline for audiovisual narrative interviews. The symposium “Principles for the Ethical Use of Digital Testimonies of Victims and Witnesses of Mass Violence” was organised by the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights and the George and Irina Schaeffer Centre for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights and Conflict Prevention.
